81 Kilometers North of the capital lies an underrated hidden gem. Sagana, a small Industrial town in Kirinyaga County, which in English means abundance is one of the many underrated places in this country. Named after the second longest river, Thagana, happens to be the town that inspired the rhumba song, Afro Mtoto wa Sagana. Sagana is a place to write home about. Your vacation is sure incomplete without the mention of Sagana. 

Grace by the hospitality industry, where else would you rather be headed over the weekend or for a vacation? Well, it is definitely the home of little hidden gems tucked in that are worth your pennies. It is the home for campers and adrenaline junkies. From sunrise over the waterfalls to Kayaking, water biking, skydiving, snorkeling, canoeing, bungee jumping, and quiet hangouts name it, Sagana is all at your service. Going by the tourism score, the best periods to visit Sagana is in June to Early October. In 2021, Sagana is likely not to observe daylight saving time.

Sagana is very attractive for travelers since it focuses on a pristine natural environment. It is very friendly be it solo travelers or group travels since you cannot exhaust the to-do list. It offers a more intimate interaction with local nature and culture. It has definitely contributed to the economy much through the income generated from tourism as it has also provided new job opportunities for locals such as tour guiding, craft making and selling, guides for adrenaline activities, and cultural performances. This has boosted the growth of the town generally, therefore also improving the standard of living for the local communities. The boosted tourism has offered a more long-term solution to poverty.

Adrenaline junkie title is earned from actions and not from the mind. Sagana will woe you to become one through bungee jumping at Rapids camp. Have you ever imagined climbing up a 60-meter steel structure with the sole intention of jumping off its edge? Well, rapids camp will ensure you are compelled to do it but, you will live to tell the beautiful story. As you climb to bungee, the wind blows against you as if in a torment to measure your will to jump. Over 200 steps later, you will reach the top and will be in the jump cage enjoying the scenery around the river bank as well as Tana river view. A lot of investment has gone into safety so you will be sure that they observe the highest standards. After your upper body is harnessed and an elastic chord is tied around your feet, then pose in a ‘Jesus position’, and you are ready to bungee!  3,2, 1 and you surrender yourself to a rope and just jump! The jump will make you feel your heart float during the free fall until the bungee rope kicks in. Bungee jumping makes you feel invincible and motivated and can make you draw close if done with a partner. 

What makes it amazing is helping you get over the fear of heights, giving you a mind-blowing view of the scenery from above like a free bird, and makes you confront your fears head-on. It is an amazing activity that rapids camp allows you to explore with family, friends or even corporates. They offer well trained guides at a very affordable rates. Despite many discouragements from the risks involved, high standards of safety are observed hence, there is no course for alarm when choosing this activity.

After the free fall, you can consider overnight camping and watching the stars with well-organized bush dinners and sunset chasing.

Rapids camp offers other activities including zip-lining, white water rafting, sport fishing, river trekking which is a combination of trekking, climbing and sometimes swimming, kayaking amongst other organized creative activities to make the travelers engaged and happy.

Besides this camp, there are several exploration spaces around Sagana including but not limited to Maya Gardens, which is only 400metres from Sagana town which is a countryside resort that gives you a feel of nature with a touch of urban side. It is a favorite for family getaways, Chama hangouts as well as corporates. You will enjoy magical countryside views from the poolside and also quiet moments.

Have you ever imagined Falling asleep to the sound of crashing water waves? If you haven’t experienced this, Jangwani camp shouldn’t miss on your to-do list. It is among the little tucked-in gems in Sagana. It is known for bush parties, camping, canoeing, and sunset watching. Good food and nightlife come in as a package when you mention Sagana.
