Diamond Platnumz Roars for Juba Peace Concert

Diamond Platnumz Roars for Juba Peace Concert

By Peter James Loruba

Heartbreaker, playboy, East African boyfriend are some of the infamous titles that Diamond Platnumz continues to accumulate for himself. As he dribbles past them with ease, one thing still stands out about him-his music and not just any music but good music. The music, not the women, is the reason he will be the guest artiste for South Sudan’s peace concert slated for May.

Platnumz will be performing in Juba in a brainchild concert of businesswoman, Achai Wiir. Following her first peace concert in Kampala that had a list of South Sudan’s musicians, Achai Wiir has this time turned her attention to home soil and what a way to celebrate peace than to have the most sought-after self-acclaimed ‘Simba’ as the icing on the cake.

Promoter K2, the organizer of the show explained why the lady who of late has been involved in doing events, had to add this to an already long list of events under her name “Peace is everyone’s responsibility and that’s Achai Wiir’s contribution” he said.

K2 says the first peace concert in February in Kampala was attended by hundreds of South Sudanese with different cultural groups in attendance. It had artistes like Emmanuel Kembe, Duok Jur, Garang Ateny, John Kudus and Silver X, the Asasia Ta Shokol singer.

On the choice of the headline act, K2 says Diamond’s music is everywhere. “We invited Diamond Platnumz as a guest artiste because his music is everywhere. So we thought it will contribute a lot.” K2 told The Insider.

“Diamond is going to be here for 4 days. He will land here on [May] 27th then have a VIP show on the 29th and then on the 30th, he will perform at the Peace Concert,” he adds.

The promoter maintains that the peace concert will be free of charge at the spacious John Garang mausoleum however; the VIP show is not part of the peace concert and party goers will have to pay to gain access.

On his part, Diamond took to his social media platforms to announce yet another Country to witness his live performance. “South Sudan! This is Platnumz, I just want to tell you that on the 29th of May I will be performing live at De Space Lounge in South Sudan then on the 30th of May I will be performing in Juba for Together for Peace [Concert]. Tell everybody Platnumz Diamond is coming to South Sudan for the first time you know how we do the rest will be history,” he tweeted.

Diamond will be the third Tanzanian to come to South Sudan after his former protégé Harmonize and Mr. Nice. Interestingly, Harmonize who at the time of his performance in Juba, was still part of Diamond’s Wasafi Label. And in the heat of the moment he did a remix of John Frog’s then hit song, Gwondo Sakit and now that Diamond is also coming and another John, albeit Bagara has a hit song, we only hope the gods of music will bless Bagara’s hustle with an East African collabo or a remix of Chalam Jaa.

However, with COVID-19 taking centre stage on the social scene leading governments to ban gatherings and the fact that Diamond’s manager, Shallam Sharaff tested positive for the virus, it remains to be seen whether these shows will go on as planned.
