Let’s reminisce

“Let’s go back to that time when, a boy and a girl could just be friends without any expectations”

By Loise Mwangi

Let’s all go back to that time when everything seemed simpler. Let’s look back even though it’s hard and seems dark. It’s cool because even the light needs to hide in the darkness at times. Let’s go back to when we didn’t know who we were and it was ok. Back to when we were happy because of small things.

Now, all we have are bruises we got when we were making memories without even knowing that we would appreciate them one day because back then, they were just wounds. Right now that we’re older, all we can do is laugh when we think back to that time
when the mistakes we made are now fun memories.

Let’s go back to that time that we try to put behind us, because we think we are too mature right now. Back when we ran around making a mess everywhere just because we could. Those days when it was alright that you were scared and didn’t know what to do. Let’s all go back to our childhood. The time that we didn’t worry what people thought. When, a boy and a girl could just be friends without any expectations. Back then when you could be yourself without fearing that you’re being judged.

When it was simpler to sing and dance your heart out just because you could. When just being yourself, was enough and self-expression was everything. Back then when you imagined what right now would be. It was just you and your friends arguing about the big cars and mansions you would own one day and whose would be bigger.

Let’s go back to when we didn’t care what we ate but ate what we felt like without caring about calories, sugar per gram, gluten: food was just food. While we ate, we didn’t care where the food came from, whether it is organic or GMO we just ate. When price was not an issue as someone else was footing the bill. We ate to our hearts contempt.

Let’s go back to when you would let your imagination run wild. When we felt we were capable of doing anything and everything. That time you had the courage to speak your mind because you too innocent to know better. When, it was okay to be scared of little things.

Someone wise said, ‘sometimes you will never know the true value of moment until it becomes a memory.’ So no matter how bad your life seems right now, it gets better. That is, if you’re willing to work for it.
