What you didn’t know about Will Smith’s Oscar slap!

What you didn’t know about Will Smith’s Oscar slap!

“In this life, you’re gonna have people talk crazy things about you. In this business you will have people disrespecting you and you gotta smile, you gotta pretend like that is okay… and this (real) life I look like the crazy father they say. But love will make you do crazy things.” Will Smith at the Oscars.

Let me finally open up and give my honest opinion about what happened at this year’s Oscars show last weekend. My favorite Actor, Will Smith slapped my favorite comedian Chris Rock after he made a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith’s haircut.

Oscars host and comedian Chris Rock made a joke about Jada’s hair, which she had shaved bald, by telling her he was excited to see her in GI Jane, which is a reference to how actress Demi Moore shaved her head for the role.

Jada, who suffers from alopecia, didn’t see the funny side and looked upset as she rolled her eyes, which I believe was inciting Will to do something. Evil woman! This prompted Will to storm the stage and slap Chris across the face as he shouted: “Keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth.”

Will Smith Splaps Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars event

Many people including my friends and family have been asking me whose side I am on. Throughout the week. I ignored them because I wasn’t about to comment on it until I compiled this research, backed by facts.

My honest stand on this case is that Chris was right. Yes, right not to sue Will Smith for that slap. He knows he was wrong to make such a joke about Jada who was suffering from alopecia, a condition in which hair is lost from some or all areas of the body.

One of my friends raptured me about the topic on Monday when I was still dealing with the political situation in Juba that left many people panicking, including myself.

“By the way, what is your opinion on Will Smith and Chris Rock’s Oscar saga?” She asked.

I was busy compiling news reports about the political drama in Juba. I needed extra focus and preparation, so I didn’t want issues happening in the US to distract me from work.

“I don’t care about those things Tina!”

“But why Dave?” she replied.

“I’m more worried about the current political situation in South Sudan because lives are at stake.”

“It was a big deal on Twitter today and I didn’t bother to open or comment on any post about Will’s Oscar slap,” I explained hoping to make up for my rudeness earlier. I was wrong. Tina was determined to drag me into an argument. She wanted to get my viewpoint and if it was contrary to hers or not. She always has this way of making you talk even when you are not in the mood or not interested in the conversation. It’s a skill she has mastered by heart.

“I know you are worried about the current situation in Juba but can we just forget about negative things sometimes, and focus on the positive?” she said joyously, smiling recklessly from ear to ear. Such a striking smile, how could I resist chatting her up? I had to.

“So Will Smith Vs Chris Rock, propelled by Eve’s daughter Jada, is not negative?” I asked to defuse the bomb she dropped. It had landed softly waiting to explode.

“Lol! Dave! Dave! At least no one is dead there.”

“Will Smith slapped Chris Rock for making a joking statement about his wife Jada at the Oscars and you’re not going to say a word about it? You’re not serious?” she fumed, ready to smack me down the way Bianca Beliar, the EST of WWE, takes down her opponents in the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Fear women.

Actress Jada Pinkett Smith, Will ASmith’s wife

Like wrestler Bianca, Tina is the freshest, quickest, strongest, smartest, and the best when it comes to winning arguments. Their difference is that one is a WrestleMania giant while the other is a Disk Jockey.

Having conceded previously, I was determined to win today. “Because previous performances do not determine current outcomes.”

“What is wrong with what Smith did? I was provoked in a way, opening the door for an endless argument. This is what she does, makes you give involuntarily. Once a beast always a beast.

“He slapped Chris on stage dude, in front of the whole world.”

“So what? Isn’t it the same stage he used to mock Will’s wife, ‘in front of the whole world’?”

“He was joking, he never meant any harm. To be clear, why didn’t Will slap his wife for cheating on him but he made a public revelation about it?”

“A joke? Nobody jokes with my family. Jokes must have a limit. Jada is Will’s wife and he has every right to protect her from public humiliation in the name of comedy. If she cheated on him that’s a family affair, not a comedy.”

Listen, don’t judge things because the majority are saying that. Have your analysis from each person’s perspective and make a just and fair judgment.

He’s even lucky to have received only a slap. In South Sudan, a bullet from an unknown source would have passed through his skull,” I joked.

You don’t just make fun of people’s wives without prior warning.

“I made an analysis and I’m not judging him based on the majority, what Chris did was wrong but Will should have confronted him privately not on stage, “Tina said with absolute tranquility.

“If it (Jada cheating on Will Smith) was a family affair, then why did they make it public? If Chris rock was a white man, Will wouldn’t have even attempted to slap him but just because he is black, Will got the balls to attack him.” She said with absurdity. A scornful reaction, bitter than Manjeje and Neem herbs combined.

I gave in. I had no ready answers because I was not Will or Chris and neither was I Jada to defend her cheating on her husband, which I am strongly against by the way.

I totally agree Will’s lap was a real deal. I was surprised not by the fact that Will slapped Chris but rather by the way he did it right away, there and then, in front of everyone and on camera. And Chris Rock still had the guts to make a light joke out of the situation.

“That was the greatest night in the history of television,” Chris joked: The slap has stirred a major debate on social media, with some people applauding Will for defending his wife’s honor, this is where Monodanga falls, while others like Mc Lupai Sambros, Woja Emmanuel, and of course my Tina de Tina, said it was unforgivable.

Some have even called for his award for Best Actor, which he won just moments after the shocking moment, to be taken away from him. While Will apologized for his behavior during his acceptance speech for Best Actor, he has since released a public statement to say sorry.

He wrote: “Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable.” How gentlemanly he handled this.

He shows remorse and respect for Christ Rock. I am also happy that Chris Rock did not press charges. He lies low because he understands people can overreact if you touched the wrong button.

The truth is that Will’s action does attract a huge negative impact. The Oscars board is yet to let us know what next but the TV rights owners have threatened to sue Will Smith for 200 million dollars because that video is going to stay there forever.

They’re right, that video is going to rock like the Rock City murders. But Will’s mom came to his defense. She even said that was the first time Will Smith went off. The first time ever! Don’t forget that Chris Rock issued an apology to the couple.

So let’s not crucify the man for sticking up for his woman. His life partner. We all do, in one way or the other. A man has got to do what he has to do to protect his family. Will Smith, surely regrets his actions. He has even resigned from membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences following the incident at the Oscars.
