Touring  Kenya’s Lake Elementaita

A trip to this beautiful saltwater lake, will leave you satisfied and in awe of this enticing Lake,
with its bustling wildlife and beautiful ecosystem. The Lake lies between the famous Lake
Nakuru and Lake Naivasha, in the rift valley region of Kenya,120 km drive from Nairobi will get
you there.
The lake is home to the beautiful flamingoes, which paint the lake pink on their peek season, and
can also be found in the other two lakes nearby. The lake can be spotted right off the main
Nakuru Nairobi Highway and is home to the sleeping warrior, which is a hill that resembles a
sleeping Maasai warrior, found on the eastern side of the lake. Hot springs also form part of that
side of the lake and are famous for family outings and picnics.
On your way to the hot springs, various animals can be spotted, from the zebras, the elands, and
the ever graceful giraffes, which are sure to make your trip the more entertaining. One can take a
trip to the hot springs and enjoy a beautiful day relaxing while soaking your feet in the warm
water, or you can take a dive and swim with the local kids, who are always eager for a swim.
Further off the shores of the lake is the Soysambu conservancy, which is part of the Delamare
farm ranch.
The conservancy is home to a lot of wildlife and has a large number of birds, and can be a bird
watchers paradise, enjoy beautiful nature walks as you try to spot the different species of birds
around the lake and also the migratory birds from Europe and all over the world, that migrate in
search of food.
The lake provides water to the wildlife in the conservancy. The conservancy boasts of over 50
animal species, the Rothschild giraffe which is an endangered species can also be found here, the
colobus monkeys also form part of the wildlife here. The Maasai can be spotted herding their
cattle amongst the wildlife since they have mastered the art of co-existence with nature.
The lake is also home to the large number of pelicans that can be found on the lake taking a
graceful glide across it. The pelicans usually fly out to Lake Nakuru in search of food and then
fly back to feed their young ones. The cool breeze that blows across the lake provides a sense of
calmness and peace.
Lake Elementaita is also surrounded by beautiful resorts and eco-lodges that provide
accommodation for adventure seekers who come in search of quiet places to spend their
weekends or holidays, the lake offers an opportunity for different activities such as, camping
under the stars or doing mini hikes around the lake or having a picnic, some resorts also offer the
pleasures of riding quad bikes and dirt bikes on the shores of the lake.

On your way to the lake from Nairobi, you will come across the amazing rift valley escapement
viewpoint, you can stopover, and take pictures with the amazing view as the background or you
can buy some artifacts from the shops on sights or the beaded Maasai jewelry or the colorful
shukas.

Naivasha is the next town you will come across on your way, on the stretch from Naivasha to
Gilgil you are sure to be treated to a beautiful sight of the wildlife on the roadside, from the
nearing conservancy. You are sure to spot some baboons as well as zebras and gazelles and a
couple of other animals.
The next town after Naivasha is Gilgil, and after that, you will find kikopey center which is
famous for its name Choma (roasted meat) and is a stopover for travelers and truck drivers who
stopover to sample the good Nyama choma and Ugali or other accompaniments. If you are a big
fan of Nyama choma or you want to try it out, make a point to stopover on your way and have
some there.
The lake is surrounded by small hills and rocks that are good for hikes either alone or with
friends, the view of the lake from one of the small hills, is one of the vast calm, and undisturbed
waters with the pelican families just gliding across it.
As part of your visit to the lake, nearby you can also visit the Hyrax hill which has a lot of
history and a museum that contains information on the early man and his activities, the Hyrax
hill provides good exercise for the lovers of hiking.
People seeking places to make memories of their special day like weddings, anniversaries,
birthdays, or even music and entertainment events like the EROA festival held in 2019, usually
choose the shores of the lake as a place to enjoy their lovely day with their friends and family in
the privacy and the beautiful scenery of the lake.
