How COVID-19 changed our world

How COVID-19 changed our world

By Sharon Tanui

It has been four months since the world started feeling the pang of COVID – 19. As the reality of COVID hit home, many people across the world felt its brunt. Many people were sent home.

Some were forced to work online while some lost their jobs. homes were turned into classrooms and libraries, and car boots were converted into mini- markets. This was the normalcy the world had to adjust to.

No one anticipated that this virus would be a big threat to people and would throw the whole world into uncertain times. With people at home, and other countries not allowing any kind of movement outside their homes, people were confined into their four walls.

With the amusement parks closed, and most entertainment spots closed, people had to look at a new way of finding entertainment for themselves and their families during the quarantine period.

Finding entertainment for people around the world was different, other people found themselves quarantined with their spouses, others with their families, or by themselves.

Yet, as humans, we strive to adjust.

The Coronavirus is still a big threat and there is no clear sight when things will go back to normal, people had to come up with different ideas of keeping themselves busy during the quarantine, and staying at home.

Some people in places with partial lockdown still try to visit their friends while others take walks to get some fresh air outside the house. Other people work out at home, and others take the time to plan for their future. Cleaning the house also became part of entertainment while others also took this time to read more books and polish on their skills like playing musical instruments.

There never seemed to be a dull moment, in the lives of people who seemed to try to get entertainment from different things at home as they try  to enjoy the new normal which was staying at home for most people.

Quarantine forced Lidia Ochoa, who resides in New York City, to follow her classes which were conducted online.

“I never get bored because I always had classes and homework to do. Whenever I got some free time I experimented with different teas and tried out different wines. I also chose to learn a new language during this time which keeps me busy,” she added.

“Usually I’m studying and trying to get better at something I already know, and I also watch movies or do some housework”, says Leo Dias from Brazil.

The use of the internet as a source of entertainment also increased, for both the young and old people. With the advent of people choosing to do their shopping online, people watching movies and learning new skills on the internet, to making funny videos and uploading and sharing them online.

Gvantsa Losava from Georgia, made videos and shared them online and also danced and dressed up and did her make up, as part of entertaining herself during the quarantine.

Cliff from Nakuru county in Kenya resorted to watching movies and series, while his friend Edwin, preferred to sleep, eat and repeat the schedule.
