Coronavirus: South Sudan confirms 1 new case

JUBA, APRIL 23, 2020: South Sudan has confirmed one new case of the Coronavirus pandemic taking the total national tally to 5 cases, according to the Ministry of Health.

Dr. Angok Gordon, the incident manager in South Sudan’s Health Ministry said the patient was trying to travel out of Juba when the person’s sample tests came out positive for COVID-19.

“We have tested a group of people who wanted to travel to the state then we found out that one of them was positive.” Dr. Gordon told The Insider on a phone interview without elaborating more on the case, saying more details would be given by the High Level Task Force later (HLTF).

This is a local transmission among South Sudanese nationals. The ministry says the patient has been put in Isolation and all the person’s contacts are being traced to quarantine and subject to further tests.

South Sudan now has confirmed 5 cases in Juba and Torit, with more than 100 contacts of COVID-19 patients in quarantine at their homes.
